How to Organize a Watch Party on Facebook

There are two ways you can start a watch party: from the top of your newsfeed (in the same box where you’d write a post) OR by navigating to our Facebook Page facebook.com/southpointct and starting the Watch Party from our video post. Creating a Watch Party allows all the participants to chat with each other, make commentary, use GIFs and emojis, and interact through the video. It’s a great way to engage with your friends and community groups while still respecting social distancing mandates. And it’s really fun.

Although this is a great tool we’d love for you to use Sunday mornings, organizing a Watch Party is not limited to our content. Gather a group to watch silly videos, inspiring content, or a montage of adorable puppies. Any Public video on Facebook (LIVE or prerecorded) can be enjoyed in a Watch Party. You may not be in the same living room, but it’ll feel like you’re all gathered on the couch and watching together.

To create a watch party from your News Feed or timeline:
- At the top of your News Feed or timeline, click Make Post or click in the new post box.
- Click … then click Watch Party. (Hint: It’s in the same area as where you add a photo to a post).
- Click Add Video. You can search for a video or click a category (example: Watched, Live, Saved, or Suggested) to view additional videos. If you are following the Southpoint Facebook page, our video should appear prominently in the LIVE tab. Or, you can search for us.
- Click Add to Queue next to any videos you'd like to add to your watch party, then click Done.
- You can choose to add a description for your watch party, then click Post. You'll see a message that says “Your Watch Party Is About To Begin.”
- Once you're in the watch party you can add friends to watch with you.

To create a watch party from a video:
- From a video you're watching, click Share at the bottom.

- Click Add to Queue next to any videos you'd like to add to your watch party, then click Done.
- You can choose to add a description for your watch party, then click Post.
- Once you're in the watch party you can add friends to watch with you.

Once your watch party starts, you can:
- Click the microphone icon to start live audio commentary.
- Click Add Video to add additional videos to the queue.
- Click Invite in the bottom left to invite friends to your watch party.
- Click Write something... on the right to chat with others who are in the watch party with you. You can click to add emojis, GIFs, photos or videos to your comments.
- To end your watch party, click … in the top right of the video, then click End Watch Party.

Once you finish your watch party, a recap will be saved on your timeline as a post, which will show all videos watched during the party along with any comments that were made.
